Good News From Germany

November 21st, 2008 - Sands

I’ve just had the list from Germany of the cats that will leave the cat rescue home in mid-December and it looks like all the strays we took there from Almerimar will be going to new foster homes, which is great news.

Smokey Boy

November 17th, 2008 - Sands

Smokey Boy is a beautiful, gentle cat that was rescued from the port in May by Jean and George. Then he was struggling to walk because he had 4 injured paws. Now he is struggling to walk because he has lost all feeling in one of his paws just above his ankle bone. I am hoping that this time, like the last, he can beat the odds and recover. He is also very weak from a recent bad infection, losing his fur, extremely thin, and altogether in a very bad way. It seems for this quiet, sweet creature the cat rescue home has not worked out at all.

Problems & Thank You’s

November 17th, 2008 - Sands

Just when I thought things were quiet on the cat front for a couple of weeks some new problems arose. Firstly Dawn and Nick who are fostering 2 of the Casa kittens had to rush back to the UK for a few days. I’d like to say a big thank you to Tracy for taking Lulu and Coreena in and adding them to the 3 she is already looking after. They are now back with Dawn and still being well spoilt I am sure.

The Law In Andalucia

November 16th, 2008 - Chris

Just read this comment on a post on Almerimar Life.

The law in Andalucia makes all strays the responsability of the town hall of the area they’re found in. They are supposed to be taken in, assessed by a third party vet, and either put down if very unwell or savage, or put up for adoption. If they aren’t adopted after (I think) a month, then they can be put down.

Our Latest Rescue

November 15th, 2008 - Sands

There I was planning a really relaxing day today, when I got a call from Richard. He was doing a viewing of a rental property and found this beautiful little thing. She kept coming back into the house and he found a bowl of cornflakes and the remains of a bird in the garden All very strange as the previous occupant, Lisa from the Piramide left over a week ago, and it is still hard to imagine how anyone could abandon any animal let alone such an adorable one; we have had her all afternoon and she just purrs and pads and wants to be loved!

Almerimar Cats

Mori - the start of it all!

I’ve been mulling over exactly how I have got SO involved with helping the strays cats recently, to the extent that I am regularly helping to clean 30+ litter trays at the cat home, finding foster homes for sick kittens, emailing cat rescue in Germany, fund-raising, sorting medication and vet visits, feeding some strays and even thinking of adopting a third one! SO where did it start and why am I doing all this?
