ALStrays This Week

Sunday 24th January

This week has ended with great new. Beautiful Beau has his forever home with a lovely couple and another gentle cat. Cony sent me a message yesterday morning to say that she had decided Beau and Emily were not the perfect couple and was I happy for them to be homed separately. I agreed and amazingly within an hour these interested people came forward for Beau.

Sunday 10th January

The transport to Germany is now re-scheduled for Friday 15th so Beau and Emily will be on their way again soon. Neither seem any the worse for their 24 hour round trip in the cold, but we will be sending them off with extra blankets. Meanwhile 4 of our temporary residents have gone back to Alondra in Almeria. We still have the 4 kittens from Murcia and will put them back on the transport. 3 of the 4 have colds but are responding to anti-biotics. All is well, and our 10 current port cats all turned up for breakfast this morning.

Beau & Emily Video

Sometimes a video shows a cat’s character better than a photo, or at least in a different way. I took this one of Beau and Emily. It is easy to see that Beau is a big, soft, cuddle cat, whereas Emily, at only 11 months, is more of a play girl! They make a great pair; Beau at times does charge around with her, and Emily also likes to snuggle up.

ALStrays This Week

Thursday 31st December

Yesterday we took little fluffy Trixie along with Marty to see vet Miguel for blood tests and more vaccinations. Marty was declared very healthy and has now been chipped, but we are still struggling to get weight on Trixie, and so her further injections and test have had to wait.

This is not a serious problem but may delay her departure to Germany until March. She still only weighs 950g which is very light for a 3 month old kitten, and although she had loads of energy for play, and seems healthy it is a concern.

Thursday Evening!

Mica’s Mum has been to collect him, and she seems a lovely lady so we are all happy. We have told Paula, the young Spanish girl who rang me about him originally, and she is very happy too. Mica after a few minutes was purring in his Mum’s arms so he seemed happy TOO. This is a HAPPY ending! AND it is one less cat for us to have to worry about which is also good news!!!

Ok once again an update is long overdue, my only excuse being that I have been spending so much time getting cats and kittens to the vet and ready to go to Germany that this blog has had to take second place. However I do have lots of photos to post over the next few days and I will be starting with those of our latest rescues.

Just back from persuading Big Beau NOT to jump from Nicola’s 4th floor balcony in a bid for freedom! He is the beautiful tomcat, that we rescued this morning, and our last visitor to the Calle Alcor cat buffet, which is now closed! Beau is a huge cat but a definite big softie, who likes being stroked. He is not aggressive at all but seemed very nervous of Nicola and all the kittens. More and more, I am convinced that he is an abandoned cat, who has had a tough time on the streets.

This morning was busy but great for Almerimar Strays. Nicola and I took Mimi to Miguel, where she has been spayed, blood tested and injected ready to go to Germany. She is now back at Nicola’s in a big cage, and amazingly is letting us stroke her. She does look very nervous but I think over the next couple of weeks she may respond more to Nicola, and learn that it is ok for humans to touch her. She knows Pam and I because we have been feeding her for most of her life, but she has always hated touching. We will see.
