Well done to Pam for having another very successful book sale to put Almerimar Strays back in the black! Yesterday raised another 180€ to help more cats here in Almerimar.

We now have a great process for re-homing the tamer stray cats, and with great prices from local vets and money coming back from Germany for each cat homed, each cat is costing us less overall to help. We do however still need money regularly, to make up the deficit for the re-homed cats and also to pay for the sterilisations of the more feral cats. All contributions are always welcome.

UPDATE: 22/04/09 17:00
Great news! Tommy now has a foster home with Nicola and Erika and is out of his cage and enjoying a nice meaty meal. Now I just hope he settles into apartment life as he has been a street cat for several years. Being FIV positive, the outdoor life is not longer an option for him. If things are looking good he will be castrated, chipped etc. next week and with luck, the German girls will find him a home soon. Even better, as Erika is flying to Munich in June, she will hopefully be able to take him with her, as the stressful 24 hours transport will not be great for this FIV cat. What a lucky boy!!! So far so good.

OK this week is now organised. Pam and I did try and catch another pregnant female this morning but she was unusually skittish so we are resigned to the fact that more kittens are coming. We are hoping she will have them on one of the boats and we may be able to find them earlier enough to (I’m sorry) destroy them. This HAS to be the best option for tiny kittens, although I know i will still find it hard.

Great coffee yesterday afternoon with all our foster parents and helpers there together for the first time. We had a good chat and wine followed coffee for most of us, and it was a good chance as always to discuss what we need to do next.

Yesterday afternoon we had our first Almerimar cats coffee, in the Milenio. I’m hoping that we’ll get together most weeks and Wednesday at 4pm seems to be the agreed time. Yesterday we met at 5pm and coffee was followed by glasses of wine, and a good girlie chat was had by all AND we even managed to talk a little about plans to help the stray cats next year.

Gisela has invited those of us that have helped with La Casa and the Strays up for tapas and a drink and to meet her daughter on Tuesday 2nd at 2pm.

I am going for sure as I feel bad that no one managed to go for the BBQ she arranged in the summer for us, and I know that she really enjoyed and appreciated the lunch that we arranged for her and wants to say thank you to as many of us as possible.

I was thinking that maybe it would be a good idea if those of us involved in helping the strays in Almerimar got together once a week to touch base, make sure we know who is doing what, and have a bit of fun!!!!

Nothing too formal or structured but having just about got to the end of the ‘Casa Crisis’ it makes sense to see what we can do on an ongoing basis to ensure that the problem doesn’t arise again and we can continue to work closely with Germany.
