alstrays twitter: Foster homes looking good for more of the cats from the rescue home. Just waiting for news of the next transport to Germany.

Our Little Siamese

This is a great photo that I took of Adalita at 6 weeks, when she first came to Almerimar.

Latest News From Germany

January 6th, 2009 - Sands

You will see from my previous post that another of our Almerimar kittens has found a permanent home in Germany. This is great news for Adalita, but not a great surprise as she was a little charmer.

This news led me to wonder what was happening with our remaining 2, Lulu and Coreena, that Dawn and Nick fostered for over 2 months, and also Carmen and Ferdi, my cat Saidi’s Grandkids.

Beautiful Smokey Girl

This is a great picture to start the New Year with … a beautiful, happy cat!

Monty Under Siege

January 2nd, 2009 - Sands

I posted a few days ago on the problems we are having with a Monster Moggie Tomcat who has turned up on Calle Alcor and appears to be terrorising our stray cats. This is actually very frustrating as one of the strays is Monty our beautiful siamese, whom we have been feeding and looking after for nearly 2 years since he was a little kitten, and the aggressive Tom Cat causing the problems has a new new collar, is tame, I’m sure has a home and does not need our support. Monty on the other hand is a very gentle cat and is at risk of losing his food source.

Nature Is Tough

December 29th, 2008 - Sands

I got involved with feeding some of the stray cats about 18 months ago, when Pam hurt her knee and needed a stand-in for a couple of weeks. That was when I fell for Saidi our little female cat, and began a 6 month campaign to persuade Chris to let me give her a home, interrupted by her having a litter of kittens! I then carried on helping to feed those kittens, particularly after I took their mother away.

News From Germany

December 29th, 2008 - Sands

Great news over the weekend that 2 more of our Almerimar cats, Georgina and Kiri have both got new permanent homes. This is fantastic and down to the hard work and caring of the girls over there. Georgina hasn’t had the best few months since George rescued her and took her to the cat rescue home earlier in the year. She didn’t like living with so many other cats (50+ at the time) and ended up spending most of her time there in the toilet with the nervous kittens … not a great life with little space and not enough attention. Now it seems she will be getting plenty of both and lots of well deserved love as well!

Happy In Germany

December 20th, 2008 - Sands

Happy Eddy

Update 20/12: Great news! Eddy gets to stay in his foster home for good, as they love him! I’m also rather impressed by Eddy’s cosy bed in the latest picture from Germany, particularly as it has a Royal Canin logo. Royal Canin to me is the best cat food and what I feed our 2. Looks like Eddy has scooped a very comfortable and healthy lifestyle.

Escaped Princess

December 20th, 2008 - Sands

Check out this ungrateful kitten. She was abandoned by her mother and Pam has been feeding her in the port for several weeks. We had a scare a couple of weeks ago as we thought she had got trapped in the building materials in the empty locale she is living in, and we tracked down the key holder for an abortive rescue attempt.

Stray Animal Budget Cut In Roquetas

December 18th, 2008 - Chris

Just read this on David’s Blog which doesn’t sound very encouraging:

Roquetas town hall has taken advantage of a renegotiation with the private company that runs its stray animal shelter to cut its budget in half, this year to only €75,000, as part of its 2009 Austerity Budget.

Kiri Travelling In Luxury

December 17th, 2008 - Sands

Today the last of our Almerimar kittens set off for Germany. This was Kiri who we rescued on November 15th and has been very well looked after since by Annie and Alan.

She is an absolutely gorgeous little tabby of about 4 months, and with a very loud singing voice, hence I named her after an opera singer!

Saidi’s Grandkids Doing Well

December 15th, 2008 - Sands

This evening there was more good news about our Almerimar Kittens and the little ‘wild ones’ who also went on their way on Friday to Germany.

Lulu and Coreena were brilliantly fostered by Dawn and Nick here for 12 weeks, and I know they have been worried about how they are, and waiting for more news. Well from this email from Martina in Germany, we can all see that all is well:
