On this page you will find all the latest and most current information. Please also keep an eye on Twitter and TwitPics in the sidebar as we will post ‘real time’ updates during transports, and as relevant we will post the latest quick news for short snippets, updates on vet visits etc.
New Van Arrived
We have brought the new van back to Spain and it will now be prepared for use. New schedule and prices will come into effect from 1st January 2013.
New Van
We are buying a new van. It will be much bigger increasing our capacity significantly.
We will be introducing a new monthly schedule. Still going to the UK twice a month one transport will combine the cats to Germany with 10 dogs to the UK and if the route allows dogs to elsewhere in Europe. The second transport will be a new dogs to Europe, combined with 10 dogs to the UK.
Additional Dog Transport
We are looking into the feasibility of offering a dog transport to France, Belgium, Holland etc.
It would be once a month, have the capability of transporting 10 to 14 dogs depending on size.
Cost would be 150€ per dog.
Animal Welfare Certification
The van has been approved on the DEFRA Animal Welfare Transportation for the transportation of live animals throughout the EU on journeys exceeding 24 hours.
Fostering in Almerimar
From January 2012 we will have NO fostering or rescue capability in Almerimar. We are going to focus ALL our attention on the re-homing and transportation of cats that are already in our ‘partner’ rescue centres and foster homes.
We will of course do all we can to help find rescue homes for local cats, but the best thing that we can do is to help re-home cats in rescue homes to free up space for new cats.
Next Transport
We are now running an average of two transports a month to the UK and one to Germany so have set up a separate page with the latest information here
Book Sales
We have decided that we just don’t have the time to get involved with any book sales at the moment so we are going to stop doing anything involving them.
We have a books available in a number of bars and if anybody wants to hold book sale and donate some or all of the proceeds to the cat re-homing and transport project then that will be most welcome, but that is the choice of the person organising the book sale which should make it clear who they are raising funds for.
So please note ALStrays is NOT holding ANY book sales, or asking for any donations or financial support at all. We are not involved in sterilisation, rescue or fostering activities at all anymore.
