Monster Mog Abandoned?

Looking Like He Deserves His Name

I first mentioned Monster Mog when he turned up in December, and I commented that nature is tough at times, with territorial animals causing problems for some of the more gentle creatures. We gave him his name specifically because he was such an aggressive cat.

Now however I am beginning to feel sorry for him. He has not had a collar for over 2 weeks, and where his previous one was his fur is really short, suggesting it was way too tight. He is now hanging around in all weathers and Muriel reports that he is often out in the middle of the night crying. He is also limping slightly from a bite on his back right leg, and has other signs of untreated fight wounds, AND he has recently lost weight, despite the plentiful dry food at our ‘all.day diner’, which may due to stress.

In essence he now shows distinct signs of being an abandoned cat. Territorial behaviour can be a sign of stress and worrying where food is coming from, and although he has been putting poor Monty under seige , he has always wanted to be friends with me and Pam who feed them. Yesterday he even happily rolled over on his back for me to stroke his stomach, and was very grateful for the chicken I gave him.

SO is Monster Mog, really a monster or is he another lonely abandoned pet? We will need to decide, as he is maybe another candidate for re-homing. Question is with all these apparently tame animals, when to intervene, for fear of mistakenly stealing someone’s pet? I guess it largely comes down to how distressed, lonely and hungry an animal appears, and in the end whether they have a chip or not. Without a chip owners really have no come-back, particularly if their animal is out on the street all day, and causing problems to other people or animals. Certainly taking Monster Mog off the street would make a lot of other cats, both stray and owned, very happy.

Anyway, it probably is time that Monster Mog had a slightly more flattering name, as he is quite a handsome chap, and although definitely feisty, he also has some endearing qualities! Any ideas?

Ahhh, poor Mog! I tend to agree, if he is showing signs of being uncared-for, finding a home for him seems like a definite option. He looks beautiful to me and obviously responds to kind treatment. Millions of names on the internet, here are a few:

Archie, Arthur, Bandit, Barney, Basil, Blaze, Bobby, Bongo, Buddie, Caesar, Cain, Casey, Cosmo, Dennis, Duffy, Ellington (only got as far as the E’s!), rather depends which suits him……Barney?

Thanks Jenny. Maybe Caesar would be a good one as he is definitely an alpha male!

Assume he is abandoned and start to get him through the system!!!

  • Sands says:

Yep think you are right, but need cash and someone to take him in!
