21/05/12: All is now perfect in Siro’s world. Sheela has become his best friend, and although they quarrel at times, mostly they play together and cuddle and spend hours licking each other. Enjoy the lovely new photos of one happy boy and his cute girlfriend!

Little Trixie is doing brilliantly, and has become quite a big girl, when compared to the tiny fluffy ball, that was rescued quite literally from the jaws of a dog. She is a real, little character, and is eagerly awaited by her new adoptants.
Finally, I have managed to take some great photos of Chivers, without scratches all over his face, from his previous macho existence on the streets. He has healed well, and adapted well to being inside, so much so that cuddles are demanded constantly accompanied by loud talking!
Baby Oscar has been with us for 1 year today and we are SO lucky to have him. Chris, big Mori cat, I and even secretly Saidi babe cat, all love him completely, and although he is now quite a big boy, he will always be our ‘little one’, as he is SO sweet!
This is my article published in the Reader Newspaper yesterday. It talks about why I believe there are less stray cats around so far this year and how the work of ALStrays has comtributed to this.

This morning we failed to catch the second of the 2 Nautico kittens for sterilisation, so she must now wait another 10 days. This was frustrating as yesterday she was actually in the catch box, but our appointment with vet Miguel was for today. We MUST catch her soon or we will have more little feral kittens!
Smokey Boy is going to be the subject of my first big feature article as his is one of our more special rescue stories. He is a beautiful, gentle cat who went through a lot before finding himself the most perfect home, with 4 lovely cat friends and one of the best Mums a cat could have.
It is always great to get new photos of our rescue cats in their new homes, and some parents keep in touch longer. Eddy is a very lucky boy, as his forever home is rather special. Not only does he have a lovely family with friendly cats and people, but he also has a big garden with trees to climb! These are new pictures …
Smokey Girl was an Almerimar street cat who travelled to Germany in December 2008 after several months in the cat rescue. I first met her near my apartment as a big kitten and thought about adopting her, but after she was seen several times playing with another kitten in a Spanish lady’s garden, we all assumed she had a home.
Beautiful Britta came to us from the protectora, with her 2 babies, in September and travelled to Germany ahead of them in November. After about 6 weeks in a lovely foster home with 3 friendly cats, she met her new Dad a few weeks ago.
I last wrote about Harvey & Greta in September, with photos of them in their foster home in Germany. It has taken from June to January this year to find them their forever home together.
These lovely little Tomcats are happily settled in their new home, with some very friendly looking parents. Domino was abandoned in an apartment block here, and joined the 3 rock kittens at Mike and Jayne’s, where he and Rocky became the cutest friends.
These beautiful kittens were only visitors for one week but Dawn and Nick completely spoilt them and became very fond of them! They came to us when the transport to German had to turn back in December due to snow, and Jos was unable to contact their cat home in Murcia to drop them off.
This article made me smile!
“A study says cat owners are better educated than dog owners. I think we should be cautious in the way we interpret these seismic findings. Even if cat owners are better educated, they can’t be more intelligent, otherwise they wouldn’t have made the profoundly unintelligent decision to get a cat. I should know. I’m a cat owner.”
Snoopy & Luke are finally settled in a forever home together, with a lovely older cat called Simba, who seemed very happy to have 2 new little friends from the start. Their new owner sounds a very sweet lady, as she understands that they won’t be really settled for several months.
As you will see from the video I posted a couple of days ago, Chivers is doing fine in his foster home here. He loves attention AND food, and actually doesn’t seem too concerned that, since his FIV diagnosis, he can no longer go outside. We are worried that he is a little bored, as he is restless at night, but when he gets to …
The lovely little kittens pictured are our visitors from Murcia. They came to us on January 8th, when the transport to Germany had to turn back at the French border due to snow. Initially I planned to put them back on the transport the following week, but due to their bad colds they have stayed with us much longer. Both are nearly fully fit, and …
I have new pictures of Balu looking very well, and this from his foster Mum:
“He has a beautiful coat that shines like a piano, he talks a lot and his handsome face looks really aristocratic! Balu is still very shy and does not want to get too close. He feels most comfortable when he is not looked at. Then he rages through the house at …
I have just received these great new photos of Luc & Lucie in their new home. I knew that these 2 had become the best of friends, which is why we really wanted to find them a forever home together, but until now I had not managed to get a picture of them snuggled up together. Meeting Luc was the best thing for our rather …
Pam and I finally caught Chivers on Tuesday morning, and it was great to find out that, although scared, he is not aggressive towards people, purrs when stroked and will do almost anything for a plate of nice food, including walk happily into a carry box! Yesterday when we took him to the vet however, things got a little more complicated.
Sunday 24th January
This week has ended with great new. Beautiful Beau has his forever home with a lovely couple and another gentle cat. Cony sent me a message yesterday morning to say that she had decided Beau and Emily were not the perfect couple and was I happy for them to be homed separately. I agreed and amazingly within an hour these interested people came …
Lovely Mira came to us with 2 kittens from Adra, and was still only a big kitten herself. She is a beautiful, gentle girl, and once she flew to Germany just before Xmas, she quickly found a new home. Here are the first photos taken by her parents who seem very happy with her.
“Mira has, so far as is possible in just one week, settled …
It is always great to get new pictures of our cats happy in their forever homes, but even better when their new parents take great photos. These new ones of Lutz are fantastic, but then he is also a VERY photogenic boy! I have a feeling we will be getting more of them too, as Lutz’s new Dad is now working very closely with our …
Along with their sister Ruthie, Kika & Betty came to us from the protectora in September, and after 2 months of spoiling by Tracey, Kev and Jack, travelled to Germany at the end of November, straight to a new forever home. Their sister Ruthie meanwhile has a new home too and was joined in December by another of our kittens, little Ricki. Enjoy these great …
Little Felix was the smallest of the 5 kittens that we rescued from the rocks here at the beginning of 2009. He has been in his new home since March last year and until now we have had no photos of him. It is therefore great to see him looking SO snuggled up, and great to know that he now has a friend that he …
Recent news about lovely, sweet Goldie is that she is now completely settled in her new home. She was a nervous girl when George and Jean fostered her here and hid under the bed from their own cats. It seems that in Germany she was also shy when the older male cat was around, but now her life sounds perfect as you can read from …
Farley & Molly were tiny babies when they came to us in September with their beautiful mother Britta. Now they have a great forever home together in Germany with a lovely lady in her brand new apartment. She fell for them when she saw my original photos of them at only a few weeks old and waited over 2 months for them to travel to …
Elsa kitten came to us in November from the protectora. Jos who runs it found her in his garden, and like everyone who met her, fell in love with her. She IS a little darling. She loves all people cat and dogs and is SO sweet. We were very sorry to part with her, but as you can see from these photos of her …
How well do you know cats? Did you know:
Cat’s have five claws on the front paw and four on the back paw apart from if they are a polydactyl, which means they have extra toes. Boston, USA has the highest rate of polydactyl cats, known as Boston Thumb Cats
The Egyptians used cats to protect crops from rats and vermin
The Egyptians often worshipped …

Marty has been to the vet today for further vaccinations and now only has one more injection to go. We were also a little worried about a ‘film’ in his eyes. Miguel checked this out and told me that he has slight damage to his third eyelids which cause them to sometimes move over part of his eyes. This is not a real …

Today Trixie was finally big enough to have her blood test which good news was negative. She also had 2 more vaccinations and is now almost ready to travel. Her stomach is much better but as we finally have the recommended homeopathic medicine ready, she will get extra treatment. Further good news is that in the last couple of days, Kerstin has emailed …
I have received some great new photos of our Coyota Kittens, in the snow! Now called Salina & Sierra, they apparently love it, and this is definitely an experience they would have been unlikely to have had here in Almerimar.
I posted in November photos of Tommy in his new home , and hoped SO much that this would become permanent for him as he looked SO happy snuggled up with his Dad.
On December 26th my wish was granted when I received this email from Germany:
“Hello Sandra. we are the foster-home for Tommy. We really like him and he is such a lovely boy. We …
Sunday 10th January
The transport to Germany is now re-scheduled for Friday 15th so Beau and Emily will be on their way again soon. Neither seem any the worse for their 24 hour round trip in the cold, but we will be sending them off with extra blankets. Meanwhile 4 of our temporary residents have gone back to Alondra in Almeria. We still have the 4 …
Sometimes a video shows a cat’s character better than a photo, or at least in a different way. I took this one of Beau and Emily. It is easy to see that Beau is a big, soft, cuddle cat, whereas Emily, at only 11 months, is more of a play girl! They make a great pair; Beau at times does charge around with her, and …
Thursday 31st December
Yesterday we took little fluffy Trixie along with Marty to see vet Miguel for blood tests and more vaccinations. Marty was declared very healthy and has now been chipped, but we are still struggling to get weight on Trixie, and so her further injections and test have had to wait.
This is not a serious problem but may delay her departure to Germany until …
