AlStrays News:12/01/11
Since my last update I have had an eventful week. 3 Persian cats will now NOT be going to Germany, I have been replaced on Spectrum FM by a ‘paying customer’, bitten twice by a small feral kitten, and met Boots.

AlStrays News 12/11/10
12/11/10: FINALLY over the past week we have got 25 cats to Germany. This has eased our strained foster homes considerably, and the great news is that many of our travellers have gone straight to adoptants.

AlStrays News
27/10/10: The last week things have continued to be very busy for me, and for Erika who is now looking after 12 foster kittens! I am trying not to take responsibility for too many more cats, as I now have 29 in foster care!

AlStrays Update: 19/10/10
I keep wondering if I am going to get a quieter week, but at the moment things remain VERY busy for me, not least because I am constantly juggling cats, due to the lack of foster homes.

ALStrays This Week
Thursday Evening!
Mica’s Mum has been to collect him, and she seems a lovely lady so we are all happy. We have told Paula, the young Spanish girl who rang me about him originally, and she is very happy too. Mica after a few minutes was purring in his Mum’s arms so he seemed happy TOO. This is a HAPPY ending! AND it is one less …

New Tabby? / Purdy?
Fed the strays for Pam this morning, and whilst our 2 regular rocks cats appeared to be having a lie-in, I met a new visitor, a rather beautiful female tabby. She seemed nervous but definitely interested in me. I’m hoping this is NOT another abandoned cat. Watch this space!!!

AlStrays Update: 17/11/09
Ok once again an update is long overdue, my only excuse being that I have been spending so much time getting cats and kittens to the vet and ready to go to Germany that this blog has had to take second place. However I do have lots of photos to post over the next few days and I will be starting with those of our …
News Of Kasper
Kasper was one of our Calle Alcor cats, and having spent several weeks being charming at Pam’s, he has a special place in our hearts. When he was first abandoned, due to his bullying of Monty and Mimi, we weren’t overly fond of him, but once he was inside we realised that he was to people a total charmer, desperate for love and …
Cute Female Cat
Whilst trying to catch the kittens near the Nautico the morning, I have fallen for an older black female cat down there, and added her to the list for re-homing.

Calle Alcor Buffet Closed
Great news is that we caught the remaining cat, Big Beau, from Calle Alcor this morning, so we no longer need to keep the morning cat buffet open there!

Update: 95 AND Counting!!!
An update is long overdue. I have been away in the UK for 2 weeks, with at times patchy internet access, and this week my priority has been getting the cats sorted over updating my blog. However I hope to be back on track soon, as I have lots of great photos to post and updates from the last transport of cats to Germany.
On …
Almerimar Strays 2009
As I have been reviewing recently what we have achieved so far this year, and since I started Almerimar Strays, I thought it was a good time for reflection on our work here in Almerimar with the stray cats, and how ALStrays has developed into so much more than my initial plans.
Almerimar Strays has slowly taken up more and more of my time over the …
VERY Contented Ginger Jasper Cat!
Very Contented Ginger Jasper
Ginger Jasper has been at Pam’s now for about 2 month, and has settled extremely well into apartment life, since we rescued him from Darsena 2.

Just About Ready
I’m off to the UK on Monday for 2 weeks, and the delayed transport to Germany is on Thursday so for the first time I will miss the cat drop and Pam will take charge with Erika to help her.

Foster Cats Update 15/09/09
Now we have 23 foster cats!!! This was not planned but our numbers have swelled since Tracey and my visit to the dog protectora to see vet Miguel yesterday. I knew that there were 4 lovely kittens who had been stuck in a dog cage for about 3 weeks, and Nicola had agreed to take them for a while, but when we arrived we found …
Strays Update 08/08/09
Time for a quick summary update, as I haven’t been phloging so much this week. I’ve been having a psuedo holiday, actually at home as we live in a Spanish holiday town!

Keba Siamese Update
Almerimar Strays is officially full right now! We have 16 cats & kittens in foster care, waiting to be re-homed, and we have 3 other urgent cases waiting to be helped, one of whom we hope to rescue on Thursday.
Since my last update post, we have managed to catch siamese Keba’s 3 remaining kittens (little black, we think boys), and after another 3 days, …
My Phlogs Added To Blog
Just a quick update on this blog. You may have noticed a new section in the header bar called ‘My Phlogs’. These are audio updates on my work with the strays, recorded usually as it happens. They are fun and are also keeping the Almerimar Strays blog fully up to date with the latest technology! Thank you Chris!!!
The phlogs feature on my site …
Strays Update 26/06/09
This morning was busy but great for Almerimar Strays. Nicola and I took Mimi to Miguel, where she has been spayed, blood tested and injected ready to go to Germany. She is now back at Nicola’s in a big cage, and amazingly is letting us stroke her. She does look very nervous but I think over the next couple of weeks she may respond more …
Strays Update 22/06/09
The kittens are all doing well, and I am making progress with the cat trap. Mimi has been almost the whole way in so I am hopeful that I will be able to actually set it and catch her this week. Meanwhile in Darsena 2 our rather feral siamese continues to be a great protective mother to her brood of five, and to hiss at …
News!
Good and bad news this evening. Tommy’s test result came back, and it is now confirmed without doubt that he is FIV positive. This does not mean that he cannot have a good life, but we must continue to wait for the right home for him, either as a single cat or with other cats that are also FIV positive. The risk is low as …
Summer Plans
I’ve been reviewing our ‘cat list’ for the summer, to make sure we have the priorities sorted. Overall we have an aim to sterilise most of the stray cats in Almerimar and re-home the more tame ones via our friends in Germany. Alongside that we are trying to reduce the number of feeding sites and overall the number of cats that need feeding, as this …
The Week Ahead
My Almerimar Strays week starts today with the bank to change out coins from the very successful book sale on Saturday; Pam raise another 160€ for our stray cats. Well done! I’m then off to see Begona our vet to finalise appointments, passports and money for this week.

Strays Update 29/05/09
Looking back on my plans that I posted on Monday, this has been a pretty good week so far achievement wise. The baby kittens have all been wormed, and new photos taken and both posted on this blog and sent to Germany, where they were proclaimed ‘SOooo Sweet!’. I have also taken some great new photos of Kasper … next post up.
I have collected cat …
Kitten News
Just a quick update on our Almerimar kittens. Our 4 little rescue kittens (photos to follow tomorrow) are doing brilliantly and today have been wormed, which they DID NOT like. Even the smallest, who weighed only 600g a couple of weeks ago, has reached 1kg which is great news.
Meanwhile it seems definite that Mimi has only got one kitten. Whilst it is sad that the …
AM At La Casa
Just back from coffee and a tostada, following a morning’s cleaning at Casa De Los Gatos, the cat rescue. Gisela is very kind but not really well enough to do this any more, and things get a little out of hand re. the cat toilets. Lovely job!!!
The number of cats is slowly creeping up towards 30 again which is not good, but she assures us …
Strays Update 11/05/09 & Plan
A mixed news days today. We STILL haven’t caught the 4th baby kitten abandoned on the rocks. This is worrying as the poor little thing is now alone out there while the 3 others are sleeping with Nicola in her bed and eating well! Tomorrow they will come to the protectoria with us to be checked over by Miguel. They seem healthy enough, unlike the …
Strays Update 08/05/09
As planned a quiet week, although we have been trying to help a very sick feral cat. So far no progress as he won’t come near enough for us to help or catch him, and yesterday was showing no interest in food. We will keep trying but I don’t hold out much hope as yet.
On the better news front, both Caesar (now Kasper) and Tommy, …
Update On Tommy & Caesar
Tommy is doing ok. Our neighbours are looking after him really well and forgiving his toilet accidents, that were becoming quite numerous until we had him castrated on Thursday. Now things are better and we remain hopeful that he can be an indoor cat and therefore have a good life. Because Tommy is FIV positive he must stay away from other cats so cannot go …
News From Germany
Since our 4 ‘Easter’ cats set off on the transport to Germany on Good Friday, I have received some great updates from the girls in Germany:
Korky and Phoebe are happy in their foster home where on arrival they were pronounced “so cute” which they are. Kerstin sent me first this email: “Phoebe and Corky arrived in their foster home very well… they were very tame …
All Arrived Safely
I have great confidence in Jos, who transports out cats to Germany for us, but it is always good to hear that our little buddies have arrived safely, as it is a very long journey.
Martina emailed me about 1 hour ago to say that our 4 cats had been picked up, were fine, and should be just about in their new homes. Martina collected Phoebe …
Busy Tuesday
Yesterday was another busy day for me with Almerimar Strays. You will see from my previous post that Pam and I spent the morning rescuing a dog for a change, as well as picking up cat boxes for this weekend from Gisela’s cat rescue.
I was then at our vet in the afternoon, taking Phoebe and Korky, with Dawn, for their final injections so that …
